7v7 UDFC Intramural Rules and Guidelines

Team Size: 7v7 (13 player team roster) 6 field players and a goal-keeper.

Goal-keeper: Must wear a contrasting color pinnie. May use gloves.

Game Time: 2 x 20 min halves. 3 minute half-time.  Games must start by 10 min after your scheduled game time.  Each player should play at least half the game.

Ball Size:  4

Referee: Provided.  Coaches will work with the referee, from the sidelines, to ensure the fun and safety of all players during the game.  Yelling at or complaining about the referee WILL NOT be tolerated.

Substitution: Unlimited. Players should be substituted at a stoppage in play – half-time, Goal, kick-in, goal kick, free kick, injury.  Coaches should notify the referee of the need for a substitution and ensure play is stopped by the ref for the substitution.  Try to minimize the number of stoppages to maximize playing time.

Throw-ins: Balls leaving the field will be restarted with a KICK-IN this year, from the line where it went out.

Goal Kicks & Goalie Balls:  The opposing team must move back beyond the blue "Attacking third" line until the ball is kicked or thrown by the goal-keeper.

Corner Kicks: Taken from corner nearest where ball left play.  Opposing team must move back 10 paces from ball.

Fouls: Fouls are a “teaching moment”. When there are physical fouls and dangerous situations - Pushing, tripping, hitting, kicking at a player, players on the ground - play must be stopped. Coaches and refs should explain how and why it was a foul. Fouls do not need to be intentional. Accidentally dangerous situations need to be stopped too - Player safety is your primary concern. Restart play with an indirect free kick (cannot be kicked directly in to the goal) from where the foul occurred. Fouls inside the goalie box result in an indirect free kick taken from the edge of the goalie box, parallel to the goal line, closest to the foul.  No penalty kicks.  Repeated fouling and disruptive conduct may result in a player’s removal from the game.

Sliding & Slide Tackling:  Strictly prohibited in all Intramural divisions.  Coaches are to remind players to stay on their feet before each game.  If a player slide tackles another player (referee determination), they will sit out for the remainder of the half.  Continued tackles will result in the player’s removal from the game.

Off-Side:  Will be called.  Indirect free kick to restart.  An off-sides fouls is defined as a player being active in the play, whose position on the field, at the time the ball is last touched by a teammate, is closer to the opposing goal than two defending players (ex. Goalie and 1 other field player).  Off-sides can only be called on attacking players, when beyond the blue “build-out line” (the final third of the field in front of the opposing team’s goal).

Headers: There is no heading the ball.  Indirect free kick to restart.

Conduct:  All players, coaches and supporters are bound by the UDFC Codes of Conduct. Coaches should foster an atmosphere of sportsmanship and instill the same in their supporters. Refer issues to the Intramurals Coordinator.

Sportsmanship:  Coaches should try to keep their team from, “running up the score” on an opponent. If a game becomes lop-sided (+5 goal difference), the team behind may add an extra player to the game.  No handshakes after the game, to minimize player contact.
