UDFC FUTSAL PROGRAM 5v5 Game Rules and Guidelines
All Divisions
  • Team Size:  5 v 5 (w/goalie).  Goalie must be wearing an identifying pinnie.

  • Game Time: 2 x 15 min. 2 minute half-time.  Games should start by 25 minutes after the hour

  • Ball Size:  Futsal 4 – league provided

  • Referee: Provided – Coaches are to remain on the sidelines during play.

  • Substitution: Unlimited, allowed at any time.  Play does not stop for substitutions, so players must leave the court before their substitute enters.  Each player should receive roughly equal playing time and play at least half the game.

  • Kick-ins: Takes the place of a throw-in.  Ball must be placed on the line and not rolling.  Non-kicking foot should be on or behind the line.  Opposing team must be 10 feet from the ball.  All other throw-in rules apply.

  • Goalie Clearance:  When handling the ball, goalies must roll or throw balls back in to play from within the goalie area. There are no punts or goal kicks.  Balls must touch the court before crossing the mid-line.  Opposing team must move out of the goalie area.  Balls must be allowed to come out of the goalie area before being played.

  • Headers: There is no heading the ball.  Indirect free kick to restart.

  • Corner Kicks:  Taken from corner nearest where ball left play.  Opposing team must be 15 feet from ball.

  • Off-Side:  There is no off-sides in Futsal.

  • Fouls:  Fouls are to be used as “teaching moments”.  Referees should explain the foul and why it is a foul.  Play will restart with a free kick.  Repeated fouling and disruptive conduct can be grounds for removal from the game.  Physical contact should be more limited than in outdoor soccer.  Referees are instructed to whistle fouls more strictly than in outdoor soccer.  This is for the protection of the players, given the nature of the indoor playing surface.  Physical fouls will result in a direct free kick.  Fouls committed in the goalie area will be moved out to the edge of the goalie area closest to where the foul was committed.

  • Slide Tackling:  Strictly prohibited.  Coaches are to advise players before each game not to intentionally leave their feet.  If a player slide tackles (referee determination), he/she sits for the remainder of the half.  If it is done again, the player is removed from the game.

  • Conduct:  All players, coaches and supporters are bound by the UDFC Codes of Conduct.  Our referees are youth members of our Club performing a service.  Coaches and players should not argue calls or talk back to the officials.  Coaches should foster an atmosphere of sportsmanship and instill the same in their supporters.  If there are issues with any of our youth officials please bring them to the attention of the VP of Intramurals or the referee coordinator, Harry Kane.

  • Sportsmanship:  In keeping with UDFC’s mission, Coaches should refrain from” running up the score” on an opponent.  If a game becomes lopsided, (a 5-point difference) the leading coach is to remove an offensive player from the court.  Handshakes are to be conducted at the end of the game.
